Artist Victoria Haven receives Betty Bowen Memorial Award
(from Seattle P-I Sept 22, 2004)
Victoria Haven makes mountains out of molehills. Using duct tape, rubber bands, paper and ink, she creates land masses whose modest size belies their great scale. Haven is the winner of the 2004 Betty Bowen Memorial Award.
Bowen, an arts activist who died prematurely in 1977, was a avid supporter of young Northwest artists, hence the award named in her honor.
The Bowen award is administered through the Seattle Art Museum, where Bowen worked. Haven receives $11,000, and ceramic artist Timothy Foss receives a special recognition award of $1,500. SAM (100 University St.) is hosting a party to celebrate Haven and Foss on Oct. 14, 5:30 p.m.-8 p.m. Free admission.
